Hot Runner Systems – Part 1: „Structure and Operating Principle“

06.10.2025

Construction
A hot runner system is a set of components integrated with an injection mold, designed to deliver molten plastic to the mold cavities without creating cold (waste) runners. It consists of the following elements:

  1. Manifold – the central element of the system that distributes the plastic to individual nozzles.
  2. Hot nozzles – the final components of the system that inject the molten material directly into the mold cavity.
  3. Heaters and temperature sensors (coils) – ensure the optimal temperature of the plastic throughout the entire flow path.
  4. Thermal insulators – separate the hot runner channels from the cooler parts of the mold, minimizing energy loss.
  5. Control system – electronically regulates the temperature of individual zones to ensure uniform material flow.

Hot runner systems combine precise thermal engineering and flow control, making modern injection molding faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly
